City Hall on the list of the most imperilled
monuments

One of the most beautiful building
in Bosnia and Herzegovina was burned in the last war. Now it is one
of the most damaged monuments. City Hall was one of the Sarajevo`s
symbol. It was a library with millions unique books and editions

City Hall in Sarajevo is the biggest and the most representative object
which was made in Austria- Hungarian period. First man who worked
on this project was famous Czwch architect Karlo Paržik, but after
some times on this project worked Alexandar Wittek. It was on 1892
and 1893. Thw City Hall was made in pseudo- Maurian style and architect
went twice in Egypt, Cairo.
But Alexandar Wittek made suicide (allegedylly, he had mental problem
because of this project). The next architect was Ćiril Iveković. He
corrected some parts of Wittek`s project and all works were finished
in 1894. The object is festive opened on 20th April in 1896.
The project costed over the million crowns ( the money in that period).
On the place where is City Hall now, sometimes were two khans which
were destroyws. But, one of these
khans
removed on other side river Miljacka, part to part. Now, it has a
name- Spite house.
Sarajevo`s City Hall made in imitation of Spania
and Magreb style. In history exixting of the town`s City Hall meant
higher state of authonomy. And Sarajevo had own in lang syne, 1896.
In 1949 City Hall gave to University library. There was a millions
priceless books, a lot of unique books. Main elements of this monuments
are uprights, apertures and cupolas. During the war in Bosnia and
Herzegovina ( 1992-1995), Sarajwvo`s City Hallburned. It was in night
between 25 th and 26 th August in 1992. Now, every day this famous
monuments dilapidation. The City Hall is very important national monument
and now it is on the list of most imperilled monuments Council of
Europe.
The project of reconstruction is on the beginning
and architects will have a lot of job on this project.
