- May 13, 2008 Death toll from China quake soars
past 13,000 DUJIANGYAN, China (Reuters) - The death toll in China's
earthquake climbed past 13,000 on Tuesday and looked set to rise much higher after
media said some 19,000 people were buried in rubble in just one area. Rain and
severed roads hampered rescuers in the mountainous area near the epicenter of
Monday's 7.9-magnitude quake in the southwestern province of Sichuan, China's
worst earthquake in three decades.
State media reported devastation as
troops reached stricken villages near the epicenter in Wenchuan, a remote county
cut off by landslides about 100 km (60 miles) northwest of the provincial capital,
Chengdu. Officials announced late on Tuesday that 500 Wenchuan residents were
confirmed dead, Xinhua news agency reported. But the toll there and elsewhere
is likely to soar. Thursday

delays in allowing in aid. In Myanmar, desperate survivors cried out for food,
water and other supplies nearly a week after 100,000 people were feared killed
by Cyclone Nargis as it roared across the farms and villages of the low-lying
Irrawaddy delta region. "We're outraged by the slowness of the response
of the government of Burma (Myanmar) to welcome and accept assistance," U.S.
Ambassador to the United Nations, Zalmay Khalilzad, told reporters. "It's
clear that the government's ability to deal with the situation, which is catastrophic,
is limited."
The U.N. food agency and Red Cross/Red Crescent said
they had finally started flying in emergency relief supplies after foot-dragging
by Myanmar's ruling military junta. The United States was waiting for approval
to start military flights.

- April 22, 2008 XXIV International Training
Session in Commedia dell'Arte Directed by Antonio Fava Reggio
Emilia, Italy 28th July - 21th August 2008 Commedia dell'Arte. Its
appearance in 16th Century Italy, its spread and adaptation throughout Europe,
marked a highly important turning point in the history of the western Theatre:
with it, the Theatre changed from ritualistic and amateurish to actual profession
(art). The new actor was born, someone who possessed a personal acting "know-how".
This gave rise to the Modern Theatre. Commedia dell'Arte as presented
nowadays, is an exacting discipline where practical ability and know-how are essential
for those who intend to make the Theatre their career. Professional actors
who want updated information, pupils from schools of Dramatic Art, students and
scholars who study theatrical disciplines are those for whom this Training Session
is intended. Applications for enrolment in the course in the form of a
letter with the student's name, surname, date and place of birth, address, telephone
number, e-mail address, curriculum vitae and two passport photographs should be
sent to: INTERNATIONAL TRAINING SESSION IN COMMEDIA DELL'ARTE / DINA BUCCINO CP
