Student protests in Denmark
United
we stand A new proposal
from the Danish government sent shock-waves through the Danish universities. The
proposal suggested cutting down the economic support for students - a support
that is unique for the Danish system. It resulted in the biggest demonstrations
since the 1970's. Students stood together - and in the end, they won... >>
Brazilian education system Racial
and social quotas help minorities to get into university
Until
some time before, education system in Brazil was like a funnel: only the richest
and whitest students managed to get higher education levels. Students coming from
other social groups would have fewer chances to get to the next education level.
But that scenario started to change when universities and government decided to
intervene on it Job options for the students in Serbia Promotions
and Manual Work
Most
often, students work during those months that immediately follow examination periods.
And while some, either due to the nature of the job or some personal organization,
work a few days each week; there are also others who work every, or almost every
day during their free months, but the time before the exams they spend exclusively
studying for them

Serbia - a move towards European integration (2)
From goal to means
It was just in the year of 2007. that Serbia accepted the National
Strategy for joining the EU. During last year, about 40 new laws that would prepare
the terrain for candidacy were planned, as well as the set of laws that would
ease Serbia's way to "white Schengen list". Dinamics of moving forward
on that path, as well as differences and obstructions in the Parliament clearly
show that Serbia has to make a great effort in order to unify it's regulations
with acquis communautaire in a reasonable period of time... >>
U.S. Secretary of state Hillary Clinton's visit to Japan
Military Bases: From Okinawa to Guam
Almost 50 years ago, United States and Japan signed a security alliance
which, among other things, allowed the former to have military bases in Japanese
territory. These bases are located mainly in the islands of Okinawa, a southern
Japanese prefecture. For along time now, Okinawans have requested the United States
to return the land back to them. Upon her visit to Japan, Secretary Clinton announced
the signature of the Guam International Agreement which will move 8,000 troops
out of Okinawa... >>
Society Protection
of confidential information within EU bodies Spies
among us It seems that out of three most important
bodies in charge of political leadership of the European Union only the European
Commission has noticed the threat of foreign intelligence agents, although Mr.
Kidd says - "as we know the European Council has also sent similar note
to its staff." In the interview for WAVE magazine the European Council
has negated this statement - "The Council has not sent similar note to its
employees. Complete staff should pass security training when entering the institution".
As for the European Parliament, according to Marjory van den Broeke's,
Head of Press Room Unit in Directorate General for Communication, statement it
could be concluded that neither this body has been warning about the risks of
espionage: "The European Parliament have no comment on those statements of
Belgian authorities and the European Commission"... >>
Belgrade Open 2009 debate tournament Mental
gymnastics
To debate means to think very quickly and to handle a lot of different information
- on the tournaments, the competitors don't know in advance on which topic thay
will debate to , and have only about fifteen minutes to prepare thier speeches.
That means that being a good debater, among other things, means to have a broad
general education , to know what goes on in the world and constantly do researches.
The rest are nuances that can be thought through years of debating... >>
Model OSCE Serbia 2009 Negotiation
and Diplomacy
The goal of this project was to learn about the OSCE through a more realistic
and practical approach. Two scenarios, fictional but with elements of truth, were
given to the students in December 2008, both concerning the environment. Students
then took the roles of Ambassadors of the countries they chose to represent, NGOs
which were there to provide expertise on the subjects as well as a voice that
was other than the government's, spokespersons which were always present, interviewing
and taking notes of the meetings, and of course the OSCE Secretariat, consisting
of a Chairperson, Secretary General and Coordinator of Economical and Environmental
forum... >>
Economics Lindsey crisis
in Britain When
Britain Sneezes Few weeks ago British workers
struck heavily against a 200 million pounds contract signed between Total and
IREM, an Italian firm. According to the contract IREM would have employed around
400 non-British workers on a Total oil refinery plant in Scotland, with much resentment
of the local and national workforce. European laws clearly speak in favour of
the agreement but this episode represents an early symptom of a more acute disease,
at a moment when EU political cohesion is running low and disputed European elections
are on their way... >>

A short history of Italian comics Little
clouds in press It is a fact that in last few years
the great classical popular comics have suffered a lot due to the technological
advancement and it is no longer the main mean of fun as it used to be in 1970s
and 80s. Back then, comics were one of the most available means of written communication
and therefore I can say that today there is a crisis in the field of Italian comics.
On the other hand, that big crisis and the lack of mass production influenced
the authors to produce work of higher quality! The comics are no longer mass produced
but it is far from low quality production - said Andrea Plazzi, the curator
of the exhibition... >>
Interview: Vera Obradović, choreographer
The
Movement is a Sign "Lada Kapičić, the editor
of the drama program at House of Culture Studentski grad, invited me to
create the authorship project with which we could apply for the grant that The
Belgrade City Hall is awarding every year. The novel "The Picture of Dorian
Gray" is definitely grateful for transposing into choreo-dramatic theatre
and that was crucial. As soon as I thought on that piece, I hadn't yet written
a project proposal, but I finished with acting cast in my head, that is, I immediately
invited Ivan Nikolić, Aleksandar Đinđić, Borjanka Ljumović, Primož Vrhovec and
it turned out to be one of their favorite book. That fact by itself had already
promised a good and nice work" - Vera Obradović, choreographer...

Internet and privacy online Facebook's

how safe we are while surfing on the web sitting in our chairs, but only recently
this thought became public matter. The guilt goes to, as you may assume, Facebook...

The Italian Blogosphere Who
is afraid of the Blogger? The blogosphere
needs to be ruled and Italy is looking for its own way. But still echoes between

in 2007 called the blog-killer law a 'geriatric assault on Italy's bloggers by
leaders who barely understand word processor'... >>

Success
is recorded in Stars "It's
not only about talent. I would say that it's much more, as it's recorded in stars.
Of course, lots of hard work is required. Many people think that it is enough
to be dressed nicely and to get up to the stage, but there is a number of other
things must function properly, as well." - says young Slovenian singer Alya...
