This year, the Belgrade Dance Festival was held from
April 1st-15th. A quriose audience could enjoy with excellent artists, famous
contemporary ballet and dance companies, equsit choreographers and the most wanted
world productions. Founded on the initiative of the International Council for
the game CID UNESCO, Paris and selector Aja Jung - brilliant Belgrade balley dancer
and choreographer, The Festival, sixth in a row, presented to the fans and professional
artists the world's best performances.
Previous years, in the full theater
rooms, Belgrade was a host of skillful assembleys: Marijinski Ballet Theater
from St. Petersburg, the Paris Opera Ballet, National dance company
from Madrid, Dutch dance Theater I and II, Kulberg ballet. This
time in the magical world of Dance we were led by Wayne McGregor - Random Dance
(London, United Kingdom), Monte Carlo Ballet, Conny Janssen Dance Company
(Rotterdam, The Netherlands), Sociedad masculine (Sao Paulo, Brazil) Ballet
Sao Paolo (Sao Paolo, Brazil), Theaterhaus Stuttgart Ballet (Stuttgart,
Germany), Emanuel Mole Dance (Istres, France), and again Kulberg Ballet
(Stockholm, Sweden). The festival was held in the Yugoslav Drama Theater, Belgrade
Drama Theater, Atelje 212 and the Sava Center.
Particularly
interesting effect was the closing event - resulted in the complete surprise of
all the present. The short, clear, informative and poetic final speech was followed
by the projects of Kulberg ballet on the 15th of April, in the Great Hall of the
Sava Center. They performed: "Empty House" and "Walking
mad".
Vivid music of Lajko Felix and the ethnic costume of Mylla
EC clearly underlined the main topic of the "Empty House" the
existential questions (I raise the mirror of my life Up to my face .With a
swing I smash the reflection The world as usual All in its place). This short
balley requires knightly mastery of the movement in reaching a choreography of
Johan Inger. Still, the culmination of the evening was humorous stage-dance challenge
(comic setting with serious meaning) - "Walking Mad" - dramatic
adventure about three women and relationships in their lives. Modern, elegant
costumes, practical and dynamic scenography (mobile big hoarding with a few invisible
entrances), and witty choreography of Johan Inger, amazed audience and left them
thoughfully smiling. Even those who feel, Maurice Ravel and his too exploited
Bolero (the music of a ballet) as an imperative of monotony, exit the hall
with dazzling excitement.
Belgrade
festival and Baryshnikov Arts Center from New York, brought the special
joy to the audience, organizing the debute of Michael Barisnikov - one of the
greatest stars of ballet art - (for the less addressed: one of the fatal loves
of Kelly Bradshaw "Sex and the city"). As announced: on the big scene
of the Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad, on 16th and 17th May, Barisnikov
will present his art with the famous Ana Laguna, in choreographies of Mats Ek,
Bengamin Milepje and Aleksey Ratmanski. Two players who have their infinite dance
work crowned in planetary glory, became the absolute world citizens. Their meeting
was impressive, their maturity is beautiful, and every movement is a confirmation
of the eternal dance. It remains only to visit Novi Sad and enjoy in the perfection!
