Topic of the Issue

The European elections

Where is our Barack Obama?
Starting from the 4th of June EU elections are held in 27 countries. Media and Politicians alike have devoted themselves to think up reports, documentations and witty campaigns to interest the people in casting their votes, but 2009s EU elections will go down in history with the worst turnout ever. 325 Million people across Europe are eligible to vote, 10 % of them are young people. But only one in three of the 18 to 24 year olds planed on voting. The contradiction lies in the details... >>

Analysis
Euro elections in Romania
As in the majority of the EU countries, Romania was not an exception either, regarding the population's participation at the voting sectors, on Sunday the 7th of June 2009. Although, most of the essays written before the elections forecasted that the participating ratio would be 25%, tops. This prediction proved to be wrong, because this number rose to 27.6%

European elections
Conservatives stay dominant in the European Parliament
Except the far-right parties, seats in the European Parliament are won even by the one-issue parties, such as the Swedish Pirate party, which advocates shortening the duration of copyright protection and allowing non-commercial file-sharing. The success of small parties, besides, lies in the modest interest of Europeans for EU election

EU Enlargement Debate
Keeping up with promises

The word that is standing pretty often side by side with the 'EU Enlargement' term is a 'tiredness', especially after the problems arose from the Bulgaria and Romania accession process. Future of the Turkey accession renders uncertain, while accession of Western Balkan is going under various interpretations. Messages from the Berlin are clearly in favour of Croatia entering the EU, and others are likely to give consent for the whole Western Balkan (Paris), before closing up for the next expansion waves to indefinite future. Mild strengthening of the right-wing parties and eurosceptic perspective in the European Parliament, together with the institutional, political and economic weakening of the EU are some of the main reasons of why we should closely follow whether the EU is likely to keep up with the made promises, in the terms of enlargement... >>

The Tamil Tigers' war ends in a bloodbath
A costly peace in Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan authorities declared the end of a civil war with the Tamils minority that dominated the last thirty years of national history. Yet, the end has come with a shockingly high cost in term of human lives on both sides, and nobody can affirm with certainty whether this was the Tigers' last act... >>

Life in Europe's country of all possibilities
Being a foreigner in the Netherlands
It's not that hard to get along with natives in Netherlands, because more than 90% of the population speaks English. However, this does not mean that everything they do is in English or that everywhere you go you will encounter no problem because you can rely on speaking and understanding English. One good example for that is the job market: if you try to find a job in Netherlands, the major condition is to speak Dutch; otherwise, you will probably not get any of the jobs you want... >>

Interview: baritone Marko Kalajanović
Meandering Paths of Young Opera Singers
"Two state opera house (Belgrade, Novi Sad), a private chamber one (Madlenianum, Belgrade) and the quiet whisper of conception scene in Niš and Kragujevac, give only the imaginary possibility of choice and diversity. Policy of the houses is not propitious to the influence of youth power (which is logical because there are enough full-time employees), and the auditions are phantasmagoria categories"... >>

Roland Garros 2009
Coronation Day
This was a tournament of surprises and a day of surprises, and while some are more pleasant than others, surprises are never welcomed by tennis players - at least not unless until they find themselves on the winning end of them. Oh, you could say Robin Soderling taking out Nadal in the fourth round here was precisely that sort of pleasant surprise for Federer, with the added bonus that Federer's opponent on this day of destiny fulfilled would be that same Soderling, still a first-time Grand Slam finalist and victim of Federer's rapier nine times in a row - and with no wins of his own from which to draw inspiration... >>

EXIT 09
10,000 dinars for 10th festival
Transportation, ticket, accommodation in the camp, without including some pocket money, would cost a Serbian visitor 10,000 Serbian dinars at least. In the country where average income is 33,000 dinars per month, this expense is close to luxury, despite the fact that it is very acceptable if one decides to go on a single performance of some artist performing on EXIT... >>
