"WAVE" No.33
July 2009

Editorial

Dear friends,

I am sure that you already noticed the form and composition of this editorial, as it should be something typical for every magazine. My choice was three paragraphs - first, some personal story, second about magazine, and third, announcing content in actual issue. This time I have a perfect reason to break this rule that lasts since the first issue.

Few days ago we received an information that says - European Young Journalist Award 2009 is finished and national juries in every country has decided about winner. And the winner in Serbia is Milena Stošić, our friend and a journalist of WAVE magazine, for the article "Europe in the south of Serbia" that we published in April issue of our magazine! Congatulations to Milena, this is a really great honour for every young journalist! But I also have to say that WAVE magazine is proud to have such a person in its team and we are happy that winning article is published exactly on our website! Instead of every further story I will just present you a short abstract out of press release containing jury explanation about the winner.

"In Serbia, the national winner is Milena Stošić with the article "Europe in the south of Serbia". Her article has persuaded the jury by its style, and Milena has enlightened one of less-known topics - the opening of the European houses in South Serbia, which are the centers for popularization of all aspects of joining EU, interesting for the people. Jury also liked that story is about Pirot and a journalist is from the southern part of Serbia - Nis, so the prize goes to the less developed area with the aim of stimulating young people to popularize European values. This article was published in the magazine WAVE.

The jury, consisting of professor Miroljub Radojković, BBC journalist in Serbia Đorđe Vlajić and ex-CEO of European integrations Office Tanja Miščević, decided about the winner on the basis of the importance of information related to the theme, originality of theme, style and quality of news writing skills, capability of keeping reader attention and effort invested in preparing the article.

All the national winners will be invited to travel to Berlin from August 29th to September 2nd, 2009, where they will meet with representatives from politics, media, academics and activists from civil society to discuss different issues related to the expansion of the European Union."
