"WAVE" No.34
August 2009

Editorial

Dear friends,

journalism is dead! - I read recently on some serious journalistic website. I would prefer phrase - "it's not feeling very well". Blogging is killing journalism. Marketing is killing journalism. Facebook can help in some way, but Twitter is definitely not a web magazine. We all use social networks and in this era of new media, anyone should try to stop the Globe. But - we have to make some differences. Bloggers can say whatever they want and not to be responsible for their words. That's great, I like that, maybe I will re-start my blog again 'cause it's really cool to have such a freedom. Anyway, people - don't try to name yourselves journalists! You only share your opinion with billions of other in our small web world. Twitter is cool for fun and sharing information but would you write SMS message and proclaim yourself a novelist? Funny!

WAVE magazine will use all these new media in the best way we can. We already have a group and Fan Page on Facebook, Twitter account is twitter.com/wavemag, we are in LinkedIn, Tagged, Myspace... Why not? That's one way to reach you, our target group, and to invite you to read our journalistic pieces.

Topic of August is definitely International Student Week in Belgrade, ISWiB 2009. I am sure you will agree with us after reading these articles. In Politics, we bring you a story about Japanese Prime minister resigning and about murder of Natalia Estemirova. After celebrating last month, we remind you of European Young Journalist Award contest in our Society section. But also you can find a topic about African youth. One more youth competition comes in Economics - Skills@Work challenge is a project of British Council and Junior Achievement. Culture & Arts is more serious this time, with stories about maestro Riccardo Muti, violinist George Enescu, and one very interesting essay. Our Brazilian colleagues bring to you, as usual, great stories in Science & Tech - about "mystery of love" and attacks that social networks survived recently. Two important sport events were held last weeks - Volleyball World League final and swimming and waterpolo World Championship. So, be informed. And finally, you can read WAVE magazine while listen to Pink Martini band, which you will find in Entertainment.

Enjoy your reading!
