Being
a European
"I watched the inauguration of Barrack Obama. That is a creative nation
with a strong will. The remaining nations namely China, Russia, India are developing.
They are not waiting for Europeans. Time is not on our side, we must speed up"

EYJA 2009 - Trip to Berlin East
meets West... and North and South
I
love the linguistic mix too, and the small conversation groups that form based
on a common or similar language: Czech and Slovak, Austrian and German, Greek
and Cypriot. Most of us, however, can't pronounce each others' names anyway, so
by day 3 we've given up and are simply referring to people by their country: "Have
you seen Malta?" "No, ask Hungary"

Prizes don't boost anything, except in minds of some bosses. They are just
milestones, telling you that you might be on the right road and you should continue
challenging yourself and to work and improve even more. Prize doesn't mean you've
achieved anything yet, but it's more of a good sign: a smile in a grocery store
or a sudden free beer
EYJA 2009 - Postcard of Berlin Past
and Future in the same place
Neither the time nor the fire and the chaos were able to destroy the border
between two opposite ideologies; between two political, social and economic conceptions.
Actually, these feelings are much more intense inside the building. What about
the old metal boxes labelled with the names of the members of the German Bundestag
democratically elected between 1919 and 1999? What do you think about the wall
occupied by some Soviet soldiers to write their briefs messages in order to celebrate
their victory, and the new glass chamber to define a "transparent" and
"modern" Government?
Politics Historical victory
of the opposition in Japan Change
to what extent? August 30 marked
a tremendous change in Japanese politics. After the disolution of the House of
Representatives and the call for general elections, the opposition party, the
Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), came out as the clear winner gaining the majority
of the seats in dispute. It is still left to be seen to what extent will politics
in Japan change, once the opposition gains power from the following days on...

Culture & Arts The Beautiful
heritage of Romania: the monasteries Cultural
trip throughout religious monuments
The most beautiful monastery in Moldavia, and perhaps, the most beautiful in the
entire country, which is world-wide recognized and considered as symbol of Romania,
is the stunning Voronec. The blue of the outside walls is so beautiful and gets
different grades of colour, depending of the time of the day and how the sun shines
of it. Many painters tried restoring the church, but they encountered difficulties
in recreating this marvellous colour... >>
International Festival of Street Artists
2009 A
carnival on the streets of Novi Sad
Over the past nine years the Festival of Street Artists has become an integral
part of the cultural life in Novi Sad, and has largely contributed to the popularization
of street theatre and music, the only event of that kind in our country. Being
international from the start, the Festival has kept attracting more and more attention
year after year, both from the local and the widespread audience, and thanks to
its foreign guests it has even become well-known outside our borders... >>
Science & Tech CO2 storage
- one piece of the global warming solutions' puzzle Time
to keep dust under the carpet Whatever you
have bought lately, it is almost certain it came in a wrapper or package that
you ripped off straight-away and put in the bin. And there is no shred of doubt
that oil, at least in one stage of the production process, has played a crucial
role, be it serving as fuel to generate electricity or as raw material, what presents
us with an impressive reality of consumption made up of one thousand barrels of
oil per second. Linked to that, tons of carbon dioxide - one of the gases most
responsible for the greenhouse effect - run together. So, the geological storage
of CO2 has been increasingly focused as a solution to mitigate this enormous emissions
rate. Although most experts vigorously defend this alternative, the subterranean
storage of CO2 still causes controversy... >>
The 40 years of Internet From
an useless data exchange to a communication revolution
Despite the decentralized structure of Internet and the promises of freedom
and openness, nowadays near all the service provided is in the hand of a few owners,
configuring the network as an oligopoly of empowered companies. As well, even
though it is passing through an evolution process in terms of accessibility by
digital inclusion policies, there is still a big dark hole that impedes full access
to the network... >>

Entertainment Interview: Mallory de la
Villemarque, kiteboarder Friendship
even when you lose I
remember when I was living in Costa Rica (for three years), I started to surf
as there wasn't wind in this place so we had to quit windsurfing, and once I was
in one of the best known spots of the country (playa hermosa). There were perfect
waves and hundreds of surfers catching them and I was waiting in the water together
with my brother when we saw a crocodile swimming just about 2-3 meters from us
and we went out of the sea like crazy... >>
