"WAVE" No.40
February 2010

Editorial

Dear friends,

are you paying online? Do you use internet for any e-job to do? Would you pay for something on the internet? Tough questions, you are right. All of us get used to reading online and surfing free of charge but you will probably agree that online journalism has the same value as print, radio or TV. Different media, different forms, but there is always someone with his work behind the article. The New York Times decided to start charging online for frequent visitors to their website, starting on January 2011. And that's ok. There is only doubt about reaction of readers and if there will be enough awareness to accept the reality. Don't worry, WAVE magazine is still for free.

But new look of our website is almost ready, and we are sure that you will like it. It is more interactive and modern, with much more different journalistic content and multimedia. A kind of web portal, we would say. But we'll keep our way of writing articles - no daily news, more analytics. We are really looking forward to your first comments.

Topic of February is freezing winter and problems with snow and storms in Europe and US. Politics is full of presidential elections - in Chile and Ukraine, but there is also debate in Netherlands about Iraq. Society brings you important issue of Spanish EU presidency and gender equality as one of the priorities in its agenda. Also we have an interview with our British colleague Neil Clark, talking about TV shows and his stay in Serbia. Paying for online content is closing and New York Times decided to start with that - read in Economics, and Culture & Arts brings you International festival in Berlin, in memoriam to JD Salinger and articles from our partners Reflejo - Hugo Chavez fight with soap operas and films of Luis Bunuel. Science & Tech is very actual with iPad story and analysis on Google vs China battle, but we also have an interesting story from the heart of Amazon. New sport's year started with Australian Open and Euro handball championship, and when you come to Entertainment read about making Avatar, actual blockbuster, and about hostels in Berlin.

Enjoy your reading!
