International Student Week in Belgrade, ISWiB 2010 will be held from
11th to 18th of July, in the capital of Serbia. Heading motto for this
year - "Do We tolerate intolerance?" - is in accordance with
intolerance that we can see on everyday-basis in Serbia and all over the world.
Will we tolerate intolerance in any form, how does it usually manifest itself,
who are its victims, and what will we do to finally put the end to it, these are
the questions that ISWiB participants will address this summer.
The
organizers - students and youth NGO "World Youth Wave", who started
this project in 2006 - are planning to host about 200 students from European universities
and offer them education and fun!
Lectures and informal socializing
International
Student Week in Belgrade consists of the educational program and
the culture & entertainment part. The educational program will organize
200 students into 10 interactive workshops: Human Rights, Filmmaking,
Photography, Marketing, Arts & Crafts, Youth Activism, Media, Performing Arts,
Sustainable Development, and Environmental Protection. Through these
workshops, students will have a chance to hear many lectures and participate in
various creative assignments. In order to make these workshops be on the highest
possible level, ISWiB's partner organizations will be in charge of their realization.
The
educational part of the program will include an open lecture, as well as
a panel discussion, which is the central event of this side of the conference.
Apart
from the educational program, participants will have the chance to get to know
Belgrade, as well as Serbian culture, tradition and nightlife through many
events that the culture & entertainment program includes. The goal of this
informal socializing is to create a unique world of young people who do not
know for barriers, and who do not tolerate intolerance. Also, one of the main
goals of whole ISWiB project is popularization of Belgrade and Serbia, as well
as bringing down ethnic, religious, cultural and national barriers among young
people.
"A citizen" of ISWiB = A citizen of the World
In
the summer of 2009, the third International Student Week in Belgrade took
place and had a great success. About 200 students from 42 countries participated
in ISWiB 2009. It was seven days of constantly exchanging ideas, opinions,
knowledge and customs. This goal was also accomplished by developing and promoting
the idea of a "citizen of Europe" and a "citizen of the world".
The
importance and perspective of the project was recognized by many domestic and
foreign institutions, and ISWiB 2009 was held under the auspice of the Secretary
General of the Council of Europe - Mr. Terry Davis. The event was also made
possible by the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Serbia and
the Agency for Cooperation with NGOs and European Harmonization of the City
of Belgrade. All the Serbian media have covered this international student
meeting, held form 9th to 16th August.
