The fight for cancer continues forward with a recent discovery or rather interesting finding. According to researchers, it is quite possible that an extra chromosome may just help keep cancer at bay. Of course, as with any biological and especially genetic finding a lot more testing, researcher and controlled trials is required. However, preliminary theories outline that under non-stressful conditions, it is possible that the presence of an additional chromosome could in fact suppress cancer.
This finding though is somewhat paradoxical. If has become common belief among cancer researchers that the presence of extra chromosomes and mutations leads to tumors. However, in a controlled environment, it is observed that cells that have an extra chromosome rather than the usual pair grow much slower. This finding directly contrasts the accepted view of cancer and growth of cancerous cells.
